Review By: Corine Long
In response to Melanie's nasty, previous review, let me say that Chiggys Touch is the only salon I have ever been to in Toronto and receive customer service with a touch of class, which is second to none. Simone Finch happens to be my stylist, and the first time I met her was when I consulted with her for my bridal party. To say the least, I was very very impressed because, as I have said, I have never received such excellent service! I've never been to Chiggys and have to wait to be serviced. Simone is always prompt, reliable, professional, and ready and eager to serve her clients! Since the day of my consultation, I have never been back to my 2 previous hair dressers because I finally found a hairstylist, who is not only a stylist, but someone who loves what she does and provides world class customer service each and everytime! So this is definately NOT a low-quality hair/beauty salon! If you had to go there and wait, it doesn't necessarily mean that she was overbooked, so let us think outside the box and with an open intelligent mind! It could also mean that her prior clients could have been late for their appointments, hence the delay in Simone attending to you. If my hair appointment was scheduled for a 2hr duration and it took more than 2 hours, I wouldn't want my stylist to rush me out of her chair and not making sure that I was satisfied; I would prefer that I was satisfied and happy because after all, I am paying for it! So, since this is life, and life just happens, the next client will simply have to wait until it is their turn, if they have the time to wait or do whatever is best for her (the client) at that given moment...as you said you were going to leave. Simone goes strictly by appointments, so something must have happened which was out of her control. I repeat, life happens, and there are times when we have no control over what happens, so suck it up, and don't be a complainer! I could see you being positive if you had left a comment about your "not so happy hair appointment with Simone", or called her or the owner to express and share the negative experience that you claimed to have encountered. That would definately help to make their services better, because no matter what you do in life, there is always room for improvement! No one or no business is perfect! I've realized that we, as people of colour, love to bring down our own, instead of trying to help us up. If you know anything about natural hair, when you are attempting to make it straight, you do not put grease on it when pressing it the first phase - it will take a couple of phases to actually get the kink out and I am pretty sure Simone must have put some sort of moisture on the hair when styling it. I am not sure if you are talking about Simone, because Simone Finch has talented skills with all hair types! It was your first time there as you mentioned, so she was not the one caring for your hair so it is quite possible that your hair was dry!! The fact that Simone gave you a $10 incentive due to the delay in servicing you, it shows that this salon is one of CLASS!! This salon lives up to the services they offer on their site, and it definately belongs in that neighbourhood - the service is impeccable! Hairstylists never call to remind or confirm your appointments, only doctors and dentists do, but CHIGGYs do call because they care about their clients! If you want your coat to be taken off by your own personal stylist, to be greeted with a warm, friendly smile, asked if you would like a cup of tea, coffee, a glass of wine, juice, or water, a slice of cake, pastries (well I am skinny so I am allowed to have cake and pastries) or have your stylist put on your coat when you are ready to leave, then this TOP QUALITY salon is the place to go - this is the royal treatment, without paying extra for it!!

I just relocated back to Toronto and came to this site to find a recommendation for someone who knows how to cut naturally curly hair. Like the rest of you, I've had my share of nightmare haircuts and salons where the receptionist promises that ""everyone here is an expert at cutting naturally curly hair"". I read about Patience at Chiggy's Touch, and I booked an appointment immedietely. I was so impressed with her! First, she is such a sweet and gentle person. She really makes you feel at home in her salon- despite the downtown location, it is not at all intimidating to be there. Second, she really knows her stuff. I walked out of there with the best haircut I've had in ten years or more. I walked in really embarassed as I had colored my hair much too darkly- plus, it had gotten all out of shape from bad haircuts. Despite having a full day, Patience fit me in and offered to fix my colour once she realized how self-conscious I was about it. She gave me an excellent haircut that really defined my curls and suited my face. This is the first time in many years that I haven't had to clip my hair up part way to make it look ok- what a relief! In addition, Patience took a lot of time with me and explained exactly how to style my hair at home. She had me watch in a mirror while she showed me all kinds of tricks and tips, and even showed me the best way to use a diffuser. I have never had a hairstylist take this much care with me and really seem to want to help me feel good about how I look. I have nothing but the highest recommendation for this salon! My husband was SO happy when i got home. I should also mention that Salynn (not sure if i spelled that right!) is the hair colorist and she did a beautiful job!! and was also very nice and welcoming. Thank you so much to both of you! I am more grateful than I could ever say. Run, don't walk, to Chiggy's Touch!!!

Thanks Karlene. Having been the victim of bad hairstylists from other salons in the past, I was more than a little hesitant to break my lengthy hiatus from hair stylists in general. However, the need to do something with my virgin hair for an upcoming important event overrode my hesitancy, and I found myself at Chiggy's (upon the recommendation of a cousin). I arrived very late for my scheduled appointment with Kim, and Karlene graciously offered to do my hair for me. I gratefully accepted and left a couple of hours later very satisfied with the result. I have been back every week since this first appointment about a month ago, and thus far, I am a loyal and happy client. (The call from Karlene a few days after my first appointment to get my feedback was just the icing on the cake.) While I remain the proverbial injured child who warily gets back on the horse, my experiences with Karlene thus far have been positive, and I look forward to a hopefully long relationship with Chiggy's Touch. Thanks Karlene.

After 15 years of many botched haircuts, ill-advised chemical treatments and stylists that didn't care, I finally found Chiggy's Touch (after a bad experience at Curl Ambassadors - who know *nothing* about working with kinky hair like mine). I went in to see Kim and like many others, was very embarassed at the state of my hair. Kim reassured me that all would be well and took the time to advise me of my options. Seeing that I was VERY hesistant to go through with any other cut or style, advised me to think on it for a week and come back. After making the decision to go through with it (largely in part because of the no pressure from anyone at Chiggy's), Kim cut my shoulder-length curls to above my ears and I've never been happier. She took the time to show me how to style and care for my hair at home with minimal product, and my hair has never looked better or been easier to take care of! I'm excited to go back and try the colour that Kim is known for. Would recommed this salon and their stylists ten times over! Run...don't walk! to Chiggy's.

Hey ladies! Ok, now nobody is more paranoid then me when it comes to getting a haircut. I didn't get a good cut in years, only having my ends trimmed, because as many curly women, people never understood my curls and always ended up messing up my hair. So one good day I woke up and told myself "Enough looking like a mop, go get your hair cut!!!" So after seeing the reviews on this this forum, I decided to go to Chiggy's and booked an appointment with Karlene. This lady is the best!!!!!! She made me fall in love with my curls again and I finally trust somebody with my hair! She's so nice, friendly and super competent, she knows what she's doing. She asked me what type of results I wanted (more bouncy, curly curls, or to keep them longer with less volume)I opted for curly curls, so she gave me a nice layered cut. My hair is still long, but it's much more lively!! She showed me step by step how to diffuse my hair and create the same look she gave me. And guess what? It's amazing! I can do it on my own!! Hihi!I have the "just out of the hairdresser look" every single morning! I bought the no Poo conditioning cleanser and the low poo shampoo and the products work amazing. My hair is nice and moist, and no more frizz for me. While she was fixing my hair, she was telling me "Oh, you're going to love your cut!!!!", and we were giggling with enthusiasm, lol. And she was right!!!! Karlene, thank you so much for being such an honest and great person! You are by far, the best hairdresser I have ever had and I will always come back to you!! Asmahan

I have been a weekly client of Chiggy's Hair Salon in Toronto since the salon opened three years ago. Patience, the owner of Chiggy's Touch, is highly skilled and very knowledgable about new and innovative products and techniques. I had been a client of my previous hairstylist for nearly 20 years at a very exclusive salon in Yorkville, which closed. I was used to world class styling, hair colouring and personal attention to details. I looked for at least a year before finding Chiggy's Touch. Patience welcomed me into her new salon, she made sure she understood exactly what I wanted and skillfully cut, coloured and styled my hair. I was extremely pleased. On my second visit, she asked if I had ever straightened my long hair. I said No, but was willing to try something new. Iloved the look, better yet, my family and friends were awestruck - long straight silky hair melted ten years away. I was a devotree. Patience ensures all of her staff are well trained in styling curly as well as straight hair. She has specialists in colour, using only non-toxic, healthy-hair products and specialists for curly hair and real hair extensions and weaves. Everyone at Chiggy's Touch is skilled in the fine art of making you feel good and look great! There is good music, lots of laughs and giggles and great friendships are made at Chiggy's Touch. Patience, you are a special lady with an incredible talent, well beyond your years. Thank you Patience.

What a joke of a salon!
Don't let the flashy website and address fool you!. This is no better than your average low quality, low-skill black hair salon. I just had an appointment with Simone Finch to get my natural hair straightened. My appointment was for 6:15pm, but as with many low-quality, low-skill black hair salons I have been to, they take on more customers than they are able to handle at one time, so your appointment only means that will get seen sometime that day. At 7pm I was asked to go to the back to get my hair washed. I sat for another 15 minutes before the stylist actually washed my hair. By then I had been there for an hour. I was put under a hooded dryer after my shampoo and conditioner was washed (no a deep conditioner) to buy Simone more time to do yet another customer's hair. After about 20 minutes of that, I was asked to move to her stylist's chair, where I spun around and played with my hair for another 15 minutes before telling her I was leaving as she worked on yet ANOTHER customer's hair. She then told that her customer to excuse her because she's going to do my hair because I "have to go". Well, I guess that's the only way I could get a WASH AND BLOWDRY within 2 hours!!! She then proceeds to detangle my natural hair with a fine tooth comb, flat iron sections anyway when she couldn't manage to detangle them, go over the same sections of hair 3 or 4 times with the flatiron, then the hot comb, burn me, tell me my hair is dry (even though she didn't put any product on it before pressing it, I could smell it burning), and that she was having a hard time with my hair because it's "course" (umm..yeah I have natural hair and you didn't put any product in it). The final straw was her telling that I should come in so they can show me how to wear my hair curly. I guess this is low-skill black salon 101 - when you can't do hair how your client wants, tell them how YOU think they should wear their hair so it's easier on you and you still get business.
My hair was a JOKE when I left 2 HOURS AND 15 MINUTES later! Straight hair with frizzy ends. I have the pictures to prove it! My hair is so CRAP that I cancelled my plans tonight. Simone Finch gave me $10 off my next visit for the inconvenience, like I'd ever go back. I wouldn't have any hair left if that was the case because she would burn it all off with her with both her flat iron and hot comb.
Bottom line, I could have done this BETTER and FASTER at home by myself. Ladies, do yourself a favour and get your hair done by real hairstylists at Ragga Hair Studios or Urban Textures. Chiggy's Touch stylists don't have the skills to be called "natural hair specialists" and they are simply posing as an upscale black salon. Their service is no different from bloody Nappy's. I wish I had seen these other reviews before going!

Review By: Disappointed and Disgusted
I acquired a lace front wig through Chiggy's Touch. The cost of the wig together with the fitting of the wig at Chiggys Touch was around $600. Within a week following installation, the wig began to shed. In two weeks, it was a matted mess, which I kept trying to work with. I would spend at least an hour every morning try to comb through the matted, knotted mess. Although Patience and her staff acknowledged that the wig was a complete disaster, they neither offered to replace it nor reimburse me. They told me the wig was ordered through a Chinese vendor and left it at that.
If you are thinking of buying a lace front wig, please do yourself a favour and order it through another reputable vendor. Get it installed at Chiggy's Touch if you must but do not waste your money and cause yourself endless frustration (not to mention constant vacuuming) by ordering through Chiggy's Touch. Ordering a lace front wig through Chiggy's Touch is like standing in a cold shower tearing up dollar bills. Be forewarned.

Recently I had my hair cut at Chiggy's Touch. Not only did they ruin my hair - they also made me feel emotionally bad and guilty about the hair I was born with. As someone who values kindness and the dollar she works hard for - I feel like it's my duty to share my story and prevent others from this type of grief. Save your time and money and don't go to Chiggy's Touch.
